Rainham Marshes

I finally made it to Rainham Marshes. It was incredible- v different to the London Wetlands Centre, it felt a lot wilder and a lot more accessible. The area of land formerly owned by the Ministry of Defence and used as a shooting range was bought by the RSPB in 2000 and with no activity for several years, was finally opened to the public in 2006. 

It was fascinating to see bunkers converted into bird hides- stranger still, to see the buildings of Canary Wharf protruding off in the horizon of this medieval landscape--- and to see the cows roam & the reeds sway violently in the wind & to hear the birds sing ---- magic...
